How to Start a Conversation

📍 From a Review

Every review has a "Message Reviewer" button. Click it to start a conversation with context automatically included.

The message will reference the specific review so both parties know what you're discussing

👤 From a Profile

Visit any user's profile and click "Send Message" to start a general conversation.

💬 From Your Inbox

Click the messages icon in the top navigation to see all your conversations and start new ones.

🔔 From Notifications

Click notification alerts to jump directly into conversations when someone messages you.

Messaging Best Practices

  • • Provide context when starting a conversation
  • • Respond in a reasonable timeframe (within 48 hours)
  • • Use messages for follow-ups and deeper discussions
  • • Thank reviewers for their time and insights
  • • Share updates when you implement someone's feedback

❌ Don't

  • • Spam users with unsolicited messages
  • • Argue or be defensive about feedback
  • • Send promotional content or ads
  • • Double or triple message if no immediate reply
  • • Use messaging for support issues (use help center)
  • • Share personal contact info publicly (DM only if needed)

Privacy & Safety

🔒 Who Can Message You

By default, anyone on RoastMyProd can message you. Change this in settings to restrict messages to only people you've reviewed or who've reviewed your products.

🚫 Block & Report

Block any user to prevent them from messaging you. Report abusive or spam messages - we take safety seriously and act quickly on reports.

🤐 Message Encryption

All messages are encrypted in transit and at rest. Your conversations are private and secure.

Messaging FAQ

Can I delete messages?

Yes. You can delete individual messages or entire conversations. Deleted messages are removed from your view but remain for the other person.

Will I get email notifications for messages?

Yes, if you have notifications enabled. You'll receive email digests of unread messages. Configure notification frequency in settings.

Is there a mobile app for messaging?

Not yet, but the web interface is fully responsive and works great on mobile browsers. Push notifications work on mobile web.

Can I message multiple people at once (group chat)?

Group messaging is coming soon! For now, messages are one-on-one conversations.
